1: A referee, or "ref" for short, is a person whose job is to ensure that the rules of a competitive event are observed and obeyed, or at least in theory. In reality, they are the scapegoats for any shortcomings that the players have and are generally treated like utter shit by both players and spectators alike.

Disregard any "official" title around their name, because the only thing official about them is their rug-munching nature and horrid calls.

1: A referee is a person who monitors a sporting event to make sure that the rules of the game are observed and obeyed by the participants. However, the refs usually just end up becoming the scapegoats for the players' shortcomings and are abused by players and spectators alike.
