2: 2) someone with a political belief that sits between the two extremes of liberal and conservative, usually combining aspects of both (example: liberal on social issues yet conservative on economic issues);

3: 3) someone who seeks compromise on political issues and as such gets insulted by the two extremes who just don't get the idea that this form of government survives by compromise;

4: 4) someone whose political beliefs seem quiet and mild, and as such always ignored by the media, which seeks out people from the screechy Left and shrill Right because they make for better sound bites.

1: Neither liberal nor conservative. Contrary to popular belief, does NOT imply a political affiliation or lack thereof; someone with no political party is considered an Independent, but can still be very conservative or very liberal. A moderate is merely someone who isn't conservative enough to be on the right, and isn't liberal enough to be on the left. Another popular (and incorrect) belief is that moderates just can't make up their minds. That's as untrue as it gets; I am an independent moderate myself, and I have no trouble making up my mind. I'm just considered moderate because, for example, I am against both abortion AND capital punishment. The former is a conservative view, and the latter is a liberal view. Therefore I am moderate.

  * e.g.,  ... I'm moderate because I have beliefs that overlap liberalism and conservativism, NOT because I don't belong to a party, and NOT because I can't make up my mind! Go screw a tree you asses.

1: A person who gets to make fun of bleeding hearts and knee-jerk cryptofascists at the same time.

  * e.g.,  ... Yeah, you got your conservatives and your liberals, but how do you actually get anything done without the moderates making the deals?

1:  A person who, upon hearing the political arguments presented by both of the only two options available in the U.S., decides that both sides are run by crazy fanatics with no concept or reality. Upon realizing this, the moderate also comes to the conclusion that the only way to make progress is to aid both sides of the struggle to both make the favorable changes and fend off the unfavorable.

  * e.g.,  ... You've got your religious zealots on the right, and communist human haters on the left. Guess I'll have to be a moderate, it's the only choice for the sane.

1: The type of person liberals and conservatives are jealous of because they are the normal political type.

1: (noun) A political orientation, also known as centrist, that seeks a middle road between liberal and conservative, a balanced political outlook. True moderates take varying positions on matters based on independence of thought, though many false moderates are merely timid conservatives or liberals.

  * e.g.,  ... A typical moderate takes more liberal stances on civil-liberties issues such as gay rights, abortion, immigration and diversity, and separation of church and state, as well as an active promotion of social causes by the government. Yet, he seeks to do so in more fiscally conservative ways, relying less on taxation and regulation and more on private initiative.

1: A political term, referring to a specific person who has metaphorically removed his/her head from the anal cavity and chosen to think and reason for oneself. Moderates do not use partisan propaganda in their logic or rationale; rather, they choose to examine candidates and issues with a logical and critical eye. Moderates will vote for the candidate who they believe will do the least damage and is lesser of two evils (as we know anyone who willingly chooses to become engaged in politics as a career is inherently evil). Moderates and history teachers/majors are the last bastions of the thinking man in modern-day politics.

1: One of the political categories that is inbetween both conservative and liberal, agreeing and disagreeing with both sides. Liberals say they are "open minded" when they really aren't, and conservatives know that they are closed minded, but moderates are open to certain ideas and opinions to both sides, depending on the person and how they feel with each issue.

  * e.g.,  ... The conservatives are the left wing of the bird and the liberals are the right wing of the bird. However, the moderates are in the middle, which is where the brain is.

1: Someone very open-minded that can accept ideas from both Liberals and Conservatives without ending up in a shithole. While Liberals are more asociated with Democrats and Conservatives are asociated with Republicans, Moderates seem to be asociated with the Libertarian party.

  * e.g.,  ... Liberals suck ass. Conservatives suck even more ass. Moderates do not suck any ass at all.
