1: The best baseball team since 1991, in which they went from worst to first. They also have 14 straight pennants, in which they won the national league pennant 5 times, and a world series in 199 and the best manager in the game Bobby Cox. One thing that makes them better than other teams is that they raise their players through their farm system unlike New York teams. Mets fans are

  * e.g.,  ... Dude, what's with all these fat mets fans in our stadium. This is Atlanta, not New York. Maybe they'll shut up after the Braves win...

2: often jealous because the braves kick their asses every year, so they come into turner field chanting: "let's go mets!" That's possibly the gayest cheer in sports. If you want to know how much the mets suck, they just lost the NL east pennant even though they were 7 games in front with 17 to go at one point.

1: a NL entity that, despite all its World Series appearances, could only win ONE (and that was really by luck, in '95 against the Indians). they haven't even made it to the fall classic in over 5 years, and the last time they did, in '99, were demolished by the Yankees in four straight.

  * e.g.,  ... in short, braves suck ass. they will never win another championship...MAYBE a pennant, but never again a World Series.

2: their owner thinks he is some sort of demigod (even naming the team's home field and the adjacent street after him), but in reality is a mindless coke/crack addict who only got rich from his daddy's inheritance. hell, he couldn't even keep "Hanoi Jane" Fonda by his side for very long.

3: meanwhile, Bobby Cox is still with them, either because he thinks he's the pope, and will hang on to the job until he croaks, or perhaps because no one else would want to manage this miserable excuse for a MLB franchise.

4: all too often,fans of this utterly pathetic "team" will slag other teams and their fans, notably the Mets and Marlins, but let's look at some numbers, shall we?

Either way the common use and interpretation of the two meanings does not differ too much in everyday life. It is an expression to highlight someone's high social value in community adding this extra bit of hidden meaning for people familiar with this expression. It can be used as an adjective or an adverb. In some cases it might even be used as a noun.
