1: An extremely awesome show on NBC and TNT that revolves around New York City homicide detectives catching criminals and prosecutors sending them to prison. Unlike shows like CSI where police procedure is all done by one group, Law and Order is more realistic, as the detectives rely on separate forensic and crime scene units as well as investigating the crime themselves.

  * e.g.,  ... Every Law and Order episode begins with the following opener: "In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories."
