1: Something that is much underrated in our society. Friendship is actually a form of love (here I'm not talking exclusively about erotic love). It's not a lesser form of love than erotic love, only a different form of love. In fact, the ancient Greeks had a word, "phileos", more or less equating to fraternal/brotherly love (friendship). Friendship seems to have no observable biological necessity(unlike parental love, necessary for humans to grow, and erotic love, necessary for humans to reproduce), and not much of a marketable appeal (as opposed to the millions/billions of dollars worth of things sold to people trying to better their marriages or parenting skills), yet without such a form of love as friendship our societies would be unbearably dull and alienated from one another. One can love their friends as well as their "significant other", just not in the same way (the difference here is quality, not necessarily quantity).

  * e.g.,  ... Friendships are not monogamous by necessity. Two people in a friendship don't need to exclude other people from their relationship. A friendship can best be thought of as two people side by side looking forward toward a common goal. It's an odd form of love in which people develop a relationship without relationship as a goal. Scientific achievements have come out of tight-knit friendships (Watson and Crick), as have works of literary genius (J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis), as well as victories in wars (due to the tight camaraderie and mutual trust of soldiers).

1: A special bond between two friends. A state in which aquantences become closer and create a unique connection causeing for laughs and comfort.

1: Permission to treat people like shit without the unfortunate backlash of physical pain that possibly comes with treating complete strangers like shit.

1: The ability to bag on another's mother without resulting in physical conflict.

1: A relationship between two people where one person agrees to make the other person's problems their own. More than often the agreement turns out to be one-sided. This includes lending money, giving rides, emotional support, listening to the other complain or just simply listening to and dealing with the other person's constant bullshit. In actuality, an official agreement was never made to do any of this. Rather a process takes place over time where one party is slowly manipulated into all of the above mentioned acts. Most of the time these relationships eventually end with the main supporter having had enough of the user's ways. However, there are occasionally more extreme cases where the relationship goes on for years, sometimes until death does them part, due to the supporter's own extreme stupidity. In some cases, the situation is so bad that the one party might actually be entitled to claim a dependant when doing their taxes.

  * e.g.,  ... "Hey, I know it's midnight and you're in the middle of drinking and having fun but would you stop what you're doing and drive me thirty minutes away to my house? Reason being, I left the cat locked in the bedroom and I need to let her out. Thanks, buddy. I really value our friendship".
