 [ "Endearment" ]

1: A term of Endearment is generally a means of expressing affection. The usage of this expression, however, changes significantly from person to person dependent on who the recipient of the endearing is.

  * e.g.,  ... Among two 'lovers', a term of endearment could be 'honey' or 'sweet heart', whereas among mates this is not appropriate. While among friends, an endearing expression could be something like teasing your mate jokingly (within reason). Example: Among lovers

 [ "term of endearment" ]

1: (1) A word or phrase used to address and/or describe a person or animal for which the speaker feels love or affection. A pet name. Often annoying to every one else except the speaker and the person/animal being referred to.

  * e.g.,  ... Don't hate, it's our term of endearment. 

 [ "awkwardly endearing" ]

1: A description accorded to people whose behaviour is by normal standards considered weird or unusual, but is nevertheless deemed to be rather cute. The etymology of this word derives from encounters between one biracial bombshell and one tall, lanky American, the latter for which the term awkwardly endearing was coined for.

  * e.g.,  ... When a boy offers to buy a girl a cup of coffee out of gratitude for her having sent him notes. Although sweet the offer, in saying, "so you can snuggle up a little longer in bed in the morning", it is more than a tad bit weird. In other words, it is awkwardly endearing.

1: What one becomes after having a crush on an awkwardly endearing individual. Like an STI the curse of being awkwardly endearing can be passed on through even minor contact.

  * e.g.,  ... When that individual who at one time attained the ‘biracial bombshell’ status loses her ability to engage in regular social encounters without saying something odd. Examples include multiple references to: Manchester City, graphic novels, the library, War and Peace, and timbits. This awkwardly endearing master status cannot be used to account for the recent Distal Radius fracture suffered by this individual. Any such bone-breaking must be attributed to a previously existing clumsiness condition. 

 [ "recycling of endearments" ]

1: A common tactic of an Identity Deficit Disorder sufferer. Akin to the regifting practice made famous by Seinfeld, except not with Christmas presents for ones friends, but with endearing nicknames for ones lovers. The cynical practice of pimp daddies everywhere.

  * e.g.,  ... Back in High School, whenever I wasn't dating anyone, my best friend Marcus would sometimes kindly invite me out with him on his dates. I started begging off though after a few such get togethers and not just for the obvious reason that this was a kind of weird social practice, but actually mostly because I got sick of seeing how Marcus shamelessly practiced the recycling of endearments like "sweetums", "loviekins" and "babydoll". Of course the girl of the moment was none the wiser to all this. 

 [ "semi-endearment" ]

1: A semi-endearment is a phrase used when puzzlement would be an acceptable outcome. It is ok to use a semi-endearment when you know a person well. But a little inappropriate as the semi-endearment can be a bit rude - but quite ok after an explaination.

  * e.g.,  ... Some examples of a semi-endearment are gruffalo or penny pockets. "oh here comes penny pockets" "here comes the gruffalo"
