Terms of Service
Version 2026-07-13.2. Effective July 13, 2026.
1. Agreement
These Terms govern your use of CarpeDiction, a language-reference and discussion service operated by Zachery A. Bielicki. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use account-only features.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If the law where you live requires a higher age to enter this agreement on your own, a parent or legal guardian must review and accept these Terms for you. CarpeDiction is not directed to children under 13.
3. Accounts
Provide accurate account information and promptly update information that changes. You are responsible for activity performed through your account. Notify the operator if you believe your account has been compromised. A Google- or Apple-created account may rely on its verified provider without initially setting a CarpeDiction password. You may add a password later for password sign-in and sensitive account actions. If you set a password, keep it secure. You must retain at least one usable sign-in method.
4. Acceptable use
You may not use CarpeDiction to:
- break the law, threaten others, harass people, or facilitate harm;
- post unlawful, hateful, sexually exploitative, deceptive, or privacy-invasive material;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation;
- upload malware, probe security controls, evade rate limits, or disrupt the service;
- scrape, automate, or redistribute provider data in violation of provider terms; or
- infringe copyrights, trademarks, privacy rights, or other rights.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of comments and profile media you submit. You grant CarpeDiction a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, and display that content only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service. Public comments and their displayed creator name may remain after account deletion so existing discussions still make sense. You may request removal through the contact method below.
You represent that you have the rights needed to submit your content. CarpeDiction may remove content or restrict accounts when reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, protect users, comply with law, or maintain the service.
6. Reference information and third-party services
Definitions, synonyms, pronunciations, rhymes, frequency information, associations, and other results may come from third-party providers. Results may be incomplete, offensive, outdated, or incorrect and are provided for general reference, not professional advice. Third-party services and linked sites have their own terms and privacy practices.
7. CarpeDiction property
The service design, branding, software, and original materials are owned by the operator or their licensors. These Terms do not grant permission to copy, sell, sublicense, or create derivative products from them except where applicable law expressly allows it.
8. Availability and changes
The service may change, pause, or end, and features may be added or removed. There is no guarantee that any result, account feature, provider, or stored content will always be available. Back up content you cannot afford to lose.
9. Disclaimer
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CarpeDiction is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation. Nothing here excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot legally be excluded.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, loss of data, loss of opportunity, or reliance on reference results. Any liability that cannot be excluded is limited only to the extent the law permits.
11. Ending an account
You may delete your account from the account page. The operator may suspend or terminate access for material or repeated violations, security risk, legal requirements, or service closure. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination, including content licenses already needed for retained public comments, disclaimers, and liability limits, will survive.
12. Changes to these Terms
Material updates will receive a new version and effective date. When required, users will be asked to review and accept updated Terms before continuing to use account features. Continued use after an update takes effect may constitute acceptance where permitted by law.
13. Contact
Questions, content-removal requests, and legal notices can be directed to the operator. Do not include passwords or authentication credentials.
